Asherah is the great goddess in ancient Semitic religion.  She is also known as the Mother Goddess, Great Mother, Queen of Heaven, among others.  Considered the goddess of fertility, the mother of the gods, and also the goddess of love.  In the ancient Near East, earth (“mother earth”), snakes, and trees are associated with goddesses as symbols of fertility and life-giving power.
